Abstract

Regarding sorjuanesque’s prose, Respuesta a sor Filotea de la Cruz (1691) ought to be the most visited text by specialized critics. Insistently, the elaboration of analyses has been centered merely on one of the letter’s main themes: the issue concerning women’s access to knowledge. Althought the mentioned aspect remains relevant, it is important to notice how the rhetoric dimension of the text has been partly left out from previous literature. Said dimension acquires significant protagonism considering the production’s context. In this sense, this article proposes an analysis of Respuesta (1691) derived from its rhetoric axis, on the basis of its role as a reply situated in a determined trial context. Upon the matters of this study, the reader is invited to reflect about the processes of a critical reception in a feminist environment, thus; how do we read femenines figures from the past through contemporary ideological dilemmas?
